FROM THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE PLO

We are going to continue fighting for a dignified peace (view)

The representative of the Palestine Liberation Organization in Argentina, Suhail Hani Daher Akel, stated that Palestinians are going to continue “fighting to get a dignified peace between both States and people”.

With regard to deportees’ problem, he also mentioned that they do not want “Israel to retreat itself due to the international pressure. They expect that Israel “respects resolution 799 which has been established by the Security Council of the United Nations”.

During his visit to La Capital’s editorial room, Akel explained that this resolution claims for “the return of deportees and it urges Israel to withdraw from the Palestinian occupied territories, including Jerusalem. 45 days after the issue of this resolution, a firm decision concerning Israel has not been taken”.

With regard to the behavior of the United Nations before the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, he stated that “the international new order is evidently showing great fallacies and it is evident that there is a double standard (attitudes) since the resolutions against Iraq, the economic embargo against Libya and the landing in Somalia were immediately put into practice. However, the resolutions which urge Israel to start carrying out actions within the international legality have not been fulfilled and respected for over 25 years”.

Finally, he talked about the attitude of Prime Minister Rabin towards deportees’ situation and the meeting between the Labor Deputy Igal Daya –General Moshe Dayan’s sister- and PLO’s leader, Yasser Arafat.

Akel said that “the meeting between the Israeli deputy Dayan and the President of Palestine, Yasser Arafat, who lives in Tunis, reflects the spirit of the Israeli people and their need of peace, what is in direct contradiction to the current administration of Rabin”.
