The conclusion, from the personal point of view
With a hectic life lived outside my Country, as the sixty per cent of my people who were converted into refugees from 1948 onwards, the experience can be very huge. From my intellectual preparation to the loss of my parents in the dispersion and the birth of my children in exile.
However, in the ceremony of my principles, I emphasise what happened in my country after my return and the ending of the 46-year-exile. When I was in my house in Jerusalem in 1996, I received a call from an Argentine-Jewish friend, who is naturalised Israeli.
At that time, Shimon was living in an Israeli village in the outskirts of Gaza. When he learnt about my presence, he called me and came to visit me in Jerusalem. We went to my house together and when we were there drinking coffee with dried fruits and sharing our experiences, Shimon told me: “It is unbelievable... I was one of the soldiers who came to occupy this city in 1967 and, today, I am drinking coffee in the house of a Palestinian friend”.
