Interview with Palestine Ambassador
Peace only depends on Israel (view)
According to the diplomat, “if the occupant country agrees to the existence of a Palestinian State”, the finalization of the conflict is going to be possible.
“If Ariel Sharon is the one who has been elected within the Israeli democracy, he is responsible for guaranteeing peace and preventing war”. This phrase – which was pronounced by the Palestinian Ambassador in Argentina, Suhail Hani Daher Akel- sounded strange after a long discourse on the reason why government members from the Arab nation accuse Israeli Prime Minister of being “a war criminal for several events such as killing 5 thousand Palestinians in a refugee camp and agreeing to the use of chemical weapons and dangerous substances such as impoverished uranium”.
There is certain logic in this phrase: the Palestinian government regards Israel as an occupant power within its own territory. Therefore, It believes that Israel is responsible for the peace process. Besides, it believes that those organizations which are responsible for carrying out attacks on Israeli targets are “resistance forces before a hostile power which is colonizing a territory it does not own. Next the conversation between Hoy and Akel.
-Are you optimistic about the possibilities of achieving peace?
-We are optimistic and we are doing our best to achieve peace. We do not want to carry out an internal interference policy, we do not want to impose policies on our leaders and we do not want to establish the future maps of Palestine by means of the occupation handwriting. If Sharon is the person who has been elected within the Israeli democracy, he is responsible for guaranteeing peace and preventing war. We have compromised with peace, our country does not consist of warriors, we do not have military power, but we are willing to achieve our freedom.
The Palestinian Ambassador expects both government to achieve “a country-to-country peace” between two nations which recognize each other such as they are, because Israel and American news agencies talk about an “autonomy” instead of talking about a Palestinian “State”
“While Israel refuses to accept this situation and continues refusing us our national rights, it is going to generate violence”, the diplomat warned.
-The United States objects to the fact that the Palestinian government does not have control over movements such as Hezbola...
-Israel does not have to urge the Palestinian government to put an end to violence, because we are victims of violence. Israel cannot accuse Palestinian people’s self-defense right of terrorism when Israel carries out a State terrorism and a terrorism established by the Israeli illegal settlers living in the Palestinian territories, where there are over 220 thousand illegal settlers. We are not trying to achieve peace for Palestinians only; we are trying to achieve peace for the Palestinian and Israeli people.
